A guided hiking trip in the Northeast Kingdom, with stays at amazing inns, are provided by America Outdoors outfitters.
The Northeast Kingdom of Vermont is an unspoiled land in a little-known corner of this picturesque state. At the gateway into this pristine landscape lies the town of Stowe, a thriving ski resort that grew up below Vermont's highest peak, Mount Mansfield.
Some hikers may choose to journey through a wonderful network of woodland and meadow trails, while the more adventurous hikers can set off for Mount Mansfield. There are numerous routes to the top of this rocky ridge (including by road, if you so desire!), and the summit is a fascinating environment of rare alpine flora and never-ending views. The trip also sends travelers northward into the quiet splendor of Vermont's Northeast Kingdom where hikers will set off on some of the most picturesque back roads in Vermont. Lanes lead through tunnels of huge maple trees and pass traditional Vermont farms. But of course no Northeast Kingdom trip would be complete without a stop at Lake Willoughby, the jewel of the Kingdom, framed by the sheer, glacially-carved cliffs of Mount Pisgah and Mount Hor. Both peaks rise abruptly out of the water's edge and can be reached by scenic trails that offer frequent lookouts down to the lake below. Hikers may even see a pair of peregrine falcons diving at 200 mph from their rocky perches.
