Everglades National Park

Everglades National Park is the largest subtropical wilderness in the United States. The area boasts rare and endangered species, such as the American crocodile, Florida panther, and West Indian manatee. It has been designated an International Biosphere Reserve, a World Heritage Site, and a Wetland of International Importance, in recognition of its significance to all the people of the world.

The boundaries of Everglades National Park protect only the southern one-fifth of the historic Everglades ecosystem. In its entirety, this massive watershed boasts a multitude of habitats and wildlife thriving in a unique assemblage amidst the subtropics.  

With the passage of time and the growth of human population centers in south Florida, the park serves a new role-- serving as a touchstone against which to guage the impacts of man on the natural world.
