Located in Routt National Forest, the wilderness is home to the headwaters of the Elk, Encampment and North Platte rivers, some 70 lakes, high mountain peaks (including 12,180-foot Mount Zirkel for which it is named) and a portion of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail. It encompasses the rugged Sawtooth Range and portions of the Park and Sierra Madre ranges.
This is a wonderful place to visit, and it is an even better place to visit with an America Outdoors outfitter. Dog sledding, educational programs, fishing, horseback riding, kayaking, lodging, mountain biking, tours and tresks, whitewater rafting, winter sports and other outdoor activities are provided by America Outfitters in the Mt. Zirkel Wilderness.
